CCNY’s Statement on Community Standards
All students are expected to treat each other with respect and dignity. Hateful speech or ill treatment of others will be met with zero tolerance.

Attendance
Students are expected to attend every class session of this course and to be on time. The instructor should be made aware of absences ahead of time, except in cases of serious emergency.
If you miss five classes, your final grade will be dropped by one-half of one letter (a 90 to an 85, for example). If you miss six classes, your final grade will be dropped one full letter. If you miss seven classes, you will not be able to pass the course. Consistent late arrivals and early departures will have a negative impact on your grade.
I will notify you by email if course absences (for full or partial classes) are having an impact on your grade. If you have special circumstances, please see me. I’m happy to work with you to help you complete this course.
A note on Zoom
Having your video on when you are in class is required. This is not necessarily so that I can be sure that you’re there, but so that I can put a face to the name. I’d like to try and make this as much like an actual classroom as possible. I trust that if you choose to turn off your video, you are still engaged in class.
Assignments
All assignments should be turned in double spaced, in twelve-point Times New Roman font. For every day that an essay is late, your grade will be dropped by five points.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the unacknowledged use of another’s words or ideas. Any paper with your name on it signifies that you are the author. Ideas are intellectual property; taking an idea created by someone else and passing it off as your own is considered theft. Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any form, and will be subject to severe penalties. Evidence of plagiarism will result in one or more of the following: a failing grade for the assignment, a “Z” in the course – CUNY’s grade that indicates failing due to academic dishonesty, a report filed at the college, and disciplinary action.
